Pally Muchiri was born in the macadamia growing region of Embu. While working for a local bank in Kenya, Pally and his wife (Emmy Muchiri ) used to help farmers aggregate their macadamia and market the same to processors/exporters through Paem company, a company they founded in 2012. By working with the farmers in their village over time, they built a strong supply base of farmers on which they leveraged on when they decided to process and export the macadamia themselves when their processing factory was complete in 2014.
Paem nuts has been offering a sustainable market to thousands of small holder farmers growing macadamia while at the same time ensuring that the end consumer enjoyed a healthy nuts snack. Their current facility has a processing capacity of 34 tonnes of Kernels per month and a warehouse storage capacity of 300 tons of nuts. Nut cracking is done manually with over 220 (mostly women) workers at the facility and over 52 women involved in sorting out the nuts.
Pally and Emmy are in the process of establishing second, modern- automated, macadamia nut processing factory in Embu, one of the major nut producing region, with the intention of dedicating the current/existing facility to organic macadamia processing.
