Angelica & Jems Arts
Projekt
Alejandro (Andro) Acu is a 60 year old father of four (4) children is a wood carver. He was born and raised in Paete, Laguna which is known as the Carving Capital of the Philippines. Paete is known with their crafts, like woodcarving, furniture making, paper mache, paper pulp, resin and countless notable creations for a number of centuries.
Alejandro learned to craft wood using the tool called Paét (chisel) at the age of fourteen (14) and where he met his wife doing the finishing or polishing of the products. With his vast experience in the arts of sculpturing, Alejandro together with his wife started Angelica & Jems Arts & Crafts named after his two daughters twenty (20) years ago in 1994.
Angelica & Jems Arts & Crafts uses hardwood, palo tsina (pine tree) and medium-density fibreboard (MDF). MDF is an engineered wood product made by breaking down hardwood or softwood residuals into wood fibres, often in a defibrator, combining it with wax and a resin binder, and forming panels by applying high temperature and pressure. Their products are of export quality and they have clients whose stores are in Tiendesitas in Pasig City, Market Market in Taguig City, and Dapitan in Manila. Some of their products are also exported to the United States.
