Sociale impact: geen woorden maar daden

Written by Koen The on 10 June 2015

“I hope this email finds you well. I now live in Accra but I was born and raised in a small village called Akplabanya, which has a population of just over 8,000. The average household size is 7.4.

None of the residents have water connection to their houses. Also, there is no clinic to attend to basic health needs. The closest heath facility is the Battor catholic hospital, miles away in the South Tongu district of the Volta region. The lack of portable water and clinic has led to needless and avoidable deaths.

It is in the light of the above plight of the people of Akplabanya that we, the indigenes of that community staying in Accra, decided to help the community secure a health facility. We started a community clean-up and medical outreach program in March of this year to educate people on sanitation and healthy living. We financed this medical outreach ourselves and we also got medical donations from some generous pharmaceutical companies. We engaged the services of doctors, pharmacists and nurses to check basic health stats and medicines were prescribed and distributed based on ailments identified.

The next step is to help them secure a clinic. We are working hard on obtaining the necessary subsidies. Thanks for taking the time to learn more about this initiative!”
