      The project

Salome Makali who resides Makueni County is among other residents who initially installed the ST100 STANDARD solar home system in February 2016. Initially she was using kerosene lamps for lighting and faced challenges of losing her livestock to the area thieves and wild animals like hyenas. Since she adopted solar energy products, she can proudly afford a smile on her face and her whole family at large are very happy.

Apart from being environmentally sustainable, lighting the whole compound and helping the customer scare away thieves from stealing her valuable livestock, Salome says the product is also pocket friendly as compared to the other lighting methods the customer was using. She is happy as she can save some cash since she started using the product.

The group of 29 villagers want loans that will increase security and general lighting in the homesteads. Local partner BNF working with Sun Transfer the manufacturer of the solar panels are looking forward to see the community transformed.

      Impact

BnF focuses on sustainable energy projects in rural Kenya, offering households a 12-month payment plan to purchase a solar home system. The system enables clients to generate sufficient energy to power many basic necessities such as lights, radios, televisions, and other essential appliances. Solar home systems reduce reliance on polluting and health-threatening fuels such as kerosene, firewood, and coal for families' lighting and cooking needs.

Electricity opens new economic opportunities for families, enabling household incomes to grow progressively. It provides access to information and entertainment, allowing the children to spend time studying in the evenings and empowering women to engage more in household and local-level decision-making. It stands to reason that entire rural communities' livelihoods benefit from access to clean energy as their productivity, efficiency, and health prospers.
