With your support Umati Capital now intends to extend their impact to reach over 500 micro and small businesses and expand their team by 10 people. This loan is for the improvement of the Umati business model (investment in online lending) and will not be used for factoring. Therefore, a collateral is in place

In 2013, Ivan Mbowa and Munyutu Waigi started Umati Capital with a simple vision: to use technology to transform access to short-term credit for small businesses in Kenya. Combining a background in banking (with Citibank) and management consulting (with Accenture), they launched a technology-enabled lender focused on small business people involved in agribusiness and other industries. Using mobile and web apps, Umati Capital has been able to lend over US$7 million to 135 micro and small businesses and 1000 farmers since 2013.

Umati Capital enables small business people to access a short-term advance payment after they supply goods and before they are paid by their larger customers. Once their larger customers pay Umati Capital borrowers, the short-term advances are repaid. The majority of Umati Capital customers have never been able to access loans because they do not have access to collateral (like land) which can be pledged to a bank.

Umati Capital has raised over US$2.5 million in both equity and grant funding from Institutional investors which include:
