      The project

Elizabeth, inspired by desire to offer something better by improving early childhood care and education for vulnerable and disadvantaged, started Muchu Academy with her husband.

This hard-working family has invested all they can afford and school population both pupils and staff is growing.

Due to poor grid connectivity, the school sends off pupils early before dusk. Most families don’t have sufficient lighting in their homes hence, limiting private studying at home.

Elizabeth has purposed to install 200watts Solar Panel that has 16 bulbs to light her 4 classrooms for upper grade pupils. The pupils will be able to undertake remedial classes early morning and late in the evening.

This installation shall not only improve pupils’ academic performance, Elizabeth sees it as a competitive advantage in the education sector of Maa Community. She is building extra classrooms because she forecasts increased intake of new pupils. She estimates an addition of 100 pupils at a fee of USD 40 per term. Her financial prospects are high from this installation.

      Impact

BnF focuses on sustainable energy projects in rural Kenya, offering households a 12-month payment plan to purchase a solar home system. The system enables clients to generate sufficient energy to power many basic necessities such as lights, radios, televisions, and other essential appliances. Solar home systems reduce reliance on polluting and health-threatening fuels such as kerosene, firewood, and coal for families' lighting and cooking needs.

Electricity opens new economic opportunities for families, enabling household incomes to grow progressively. It provides access to information and entertainment, allowing the children to spend time studying in the evenings and empowering women to engage more in household and local-level decision-making. It stands to reason that entire rural communities' livelihoods benefit from access to clean energy as their productivity, efficiency, and health prospers.
