      Summary

Located over 225km from the capital city- Nairobi, lies kithithina village in the heart Timau location. Most villagers have to do with fossil fuels to provide lighting. Since grid power is far away most families spend their limited resources to buy generators which are costly to run.

Meet a woman Ms Muthamia who has three children. The older child is in school and has no alternative but to use a noisy generator to provide lighting. This obviously disturbs the child’s concentration and also has to do with fewer hours of study because for the family cost of running the generator is a factor. This is a story replicated in many homes. Some whom are not as able have to use locally made lighters which use the fossil fuels but poses risks to health and safety.

A cheap and clean energy source that the solar home systems will bring to the resident of this village homes will be a big step towards a better life sparing some coins for other much needed household needs like medical, education and farming.

      Impact

BnF focuses on sustainable energy projects in rural Kenya, offering households a 12-month payment plan to purchase a solar home system. The system enables clients to generate sufficient energy to power many basic necessities such as lights, radios, televisions, and other essential appliances. Solar home systems reduce reliance on polluting and health-threatening fuels such as kerosene, firewood, and coal for families' lighting and cooking needs.

Electricity opens new economic opportunities for families, enabling household incomes to grow progressively. It provides access to information and entertainment, allowing the children to spend time studying in the evenings and empowering women to engage more in household and local-level decision-making. It stands to reason that entire rural communities' livelihoods benefit from access to clean energy as their productivity, efficiency, and health prospers.
