Robert Namu, a Kenyan entrepreneur, is the CEO of INTEL Centre – a prominent supplier of hardware IT solutions. The company started operations in 2012.
Since 2014 INTEL has been a sub-contractor of the Lake Turkana Wind Power (LTWP) project, which is the single largest private investment in Kenya’s history. The EUR 625 million project covers 162 km², comprises 365 wind turbines and is located in the remote Loiyangalani District, Marsabit County. The LTWP project has progressed according to plan and electricity is already being generated. (https://ltwp.co.ke/).
LTWP is supported by the Dutch government which provided a €10 mln grant for the rehabilitation of the access roads to the project site. Moreover, the Dutch development bank FMO has provided 35 mln in financing for the project. Read more here.
As part of LTWP a brand-new village for 7,000 workers has been constructed in the desert; INTEL has now been contracted to connect every house in the village to a fiber optic cable providing them with phone lines and access to high speed internet. Moreover, they will also get access to wind energy.
Currently, the company has 30 labors working on its various projects and with this funding, the number will grow to over 85 (of which many youths).
