Summary
In a county that has highest levels of poverty in Kenya is home to Milton Mirema who lives with his four children and wife.
Struggling to make ends meet as a boda boda rider (transporting people using a motorcycle), Milton has managed to put a roof over his family’s head. The next hurdle is to purchase a modern Solar Home lighting kit for his family. The main source of lighting is Kerosene lamp. Dim lights, fumes from burning paraffin affects the health of Milton’s young family. Children strain to do their homework. The house doesn’t have internal toilets so the family is forced to go out in the dark at night which is risky.
Milton is convinced that with savings from boda boda business complimented with small scale farming, he will be able to purchase a modern Solar Home Lighting System that comprises 5 bulbs, 24-inch TV, 1 battery 40 AH, Phone Charging Kit with multiple chargers and a solar panel. With multiple phone chargers, his wife shall make an extra cent from charging phones for her neighbors.
To Milton, this solar package is a complete makeover for his family, a new dawn indeed.

Impact
BnF focuses on sustainable energy projects in rural Kenya, offering households a 12-month payment plan to purchase a solar home system. The system enables clients to generate sufficient energy to power many basic necessities such as lights, radios, televisions, and other essential appliances. Solar home systems reduce reliance on polluting and health-threatening fuels such as kerosene, firewood, and coal for families' lighting and cooking needs.
Electricity opens new economic opportunities for families, enabling household incomes to grow progressively. It provides access to information and entertainment, allowing the children to spend time studying in the evenings and empowering women to engage more in household and local-level decision-making. It stands to reason that entire rural communities' livelihoods benefit from access to clean energy as their productivity, efficiency, and health prospers.
