Projekt
Lorena "Lorie" Sagun, a 40 year old mother of two owns the Guiding Star Lying-in and Polyclinic for over 2 years. She worked as a volunteer midwife for Pagamutan Bayan ng Malabon (Malabon Public Hospital) where she met her doctor husband.
After she got married, she took up a nursing course and worked as a staff nurse for Martinez Memorial Hospital for 1.5 years. She thought of starting a clinic of their own. Both Lorie and her husband ran the clinic at their house for 6 years until her husband was able to raise enough money to purchase a property in Malabon for their clinic.
They officially started Lorie started Guiding Star Lying-in and Polyclinic in September 2012. The name of the clinic was inspired by the story of Bethlehem Star guiding the three kings toward the newly born Jesus Christ. Her eldest son works as the front desk clerk of the clinic and the clinic employs 4 employees consisting of a male and three 3 females. They enjoy compensations and free meals. Guiding Star Lying-in and Polyclinic offers low consultation fees with affordable medicine.
Lorie plans to branch out. Sometimes, the clinic just asks for the cost of medicine for the services they provide to patients who are unable to pay in full. And sometime they give it away for free. Lorie will use the proceeds of the loan to refurbish the clinic and to purchase new clinic equipment.
