      Le projet

Maa Community in Kajiado County is home to Seina Ene Olesimayo in her late fifties. This indigenous and ethnic community still holds on its distinct traditions and customs among them; bright dresses and heavy beads worn by women. The county enjoys huge amounts of sunlight most seasons in the year.

Raising her 5 children as a single mother, Seina has defied odds in her life and risen against heavy customary requirements that despise women headed households.

Solar lighting technologies entry into Maa community has excited Seina who relies on Kerosene lit lamps. Her homestead is always dark after dusk because kerosene lamps are lit for specific hours due to high cost of paraffin.

With Solar light, she will be able to do beading in the night for sale to the nearby Amboseli tourist centres. Solar lighting shall transform her life by increasing productivity hence more disposable income. Seina believes Solar is the way to go and there is no turning back.

      Impact

BnF focuses on sustainable energy projects in rural Kenya, offering households a 12-month payment plan to purchase a solar home system. The system enables clients to generate sufficient energy to power many basic necessities such as lights, radios, televisions, and other essential appliances. Solar home systems reduce reliance on polluting and health-threatening fuels such as kerosene, firewood, and coal for families' lighting and cooking needs.

Electricity opens new economic opportunities for families, enabling household incomes to grow progressively. It provides access to information and entertainment, allowing the children to spend time studying in the evenings and empowering women to engage more in household and local-level decision-making. It stands to reason that entire rural communities' livelihoods benefit from access to clean energy as their productivity, efficiency, and health prospers.
