Susan a young married mother of three school going children, is not left behind. She runs a petty grocery shop in the community selling food items. She makes daily income of USD 5 and her dedication has enabled the family to construct a 3 roomed permanent house.
New normal in education sector is online study for school going children. There are many school curriculum programmes on the TV aired daily for children to close in lost physical contact learning time in Schools.
Susan installed Home Solar lighting that replaced use of kerosene in 2018. She is now ready to purchase a 24inch TV that comes with 3000mAh battery and 35W panel mainly for schooling purposes and entertainment. This costs USD 639 with daily repayment of USD 1
With her current income, she is able to service the loan and stock her shop.
The children are excited to join others in the digital classroom via TV. Solar has revived `school’ for them.

Impact
BnF richt zich op duurzame energieprojecten in ruraal Kenia, door de aankoop van solar home systems mogelijk te maken. Gezinnen kunnen hun eigen systeem afbetalen met een lening van 12 maanden. Met een systeem op zonne-energie kan een gezin voldoende energie genereren voor basisbehoeften zoals verlichting, radio’s, televisies en andere essentiële apparaten. Systemen op zonne-energie zorgen ervoor dat gezinnen niet langer afhankelijk zijn van vervuilende brandstoffen zoals kerosine, brandhout en steenkool om hun huis te verlichten en om te kunnen koken.
Deze brandstoffen zijn niet alleen vervuilend maar ook gevaarlijk voor de gezondheid. Elektriciteit zorgt voor nieuwe economische mogelijkheden, waardoor gezinnen meer kunnen verdienen. De toegang tot informatie en entertainment zorgt ervoor dat kinderen ook ‘s avonds tijd kunnen besteden aan hun studies en dat vrouwen zich actiever kunnen inzetten in de besluitvorming binnen het huishouden en de gemeenschap. Het spreekt voor zich dat het leven op het platteland veel baat heeft bij toegang tot schone energie, omdat productiviteit, efficiëntie en gezondheid erop vooruit gaan.
