Hi everyone,

I'm Lendahand's newest (and currently only) intern addition! My name is Aqsa and I am 22 years old. Born and raised in London, with a Pakistani background, I spent the last three years living and studying in Amsterdam. I recently graduated from Amsterdam University College having studied a liberal arts and sciences curriculum focusing on Political Science, International Relations and Philosophy. In September 2016, I will be starting a master's program at the London School of Economics called 'Economy, Risk and Society’. Having worked in diverse fields such as the NGO world, think tanks and the corporate world, I have come to the tentative conclusion that I would like to pursue the fields of international governance and development. Often considered naive and idealistic, I still wholeheartedly believe that institutions such as the United Nations have immense potential and would love to be part of their much needed reform and continued development and impact.

Passion

This summer I will work at Lendahand on various exciting projects which tie in with my passions for development, as well as give me exposure to various new fields. My thesis was about the role of the private sector in post-conflict development, and with Lendahand focusing on emerging markets, this internship serves as a great continuity of the topics I explored during my research.

UN Sustainable Development Goals

At Lendahand, I will be assisting the international roll-out of Lendahand to London by doing research into areas such as potential collaboration with UK-based social enterprises, access to funding and a marketing strategy. Secondly, I will be looking more closely at how we can link the work we do at Lendahand to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, specifically focusing on goals 5 (gender equality), 8 (decent work and economic growth) and 17 (partnerships). Besides this, as an intern at a young company, I imagine many random ‘intern’ tasks will fall on my plate.

I am excited for the next two months and will no doubt have an enriching experience here!
