El proyecto

Ann Wanjiru is a single mother of four children. She lives in a small village called Ndule in Loitoktok, a town in Kajiado County close to Tanzania- Kenya border. She lives with her elderly mother who is undergoing treatment in an neighbouring health facility. Her main source of lighting is a Koroboi lamp [a small kerosene lamp] and has a hand-held torch which she uses as a back-up in case of lack of kerosene to help her nurse her sick mother at night.

One of the negative effects of Koroboi lamp is the soot produced which has affected the elderly and sick mother especially when inhaled for a long time. Thus Ann has resulted in the use of a torch at night but that has meant buying the dry batteries, a huge cost for her squeezed income.

The solar home system will come as a great relief both for lighting the house which not only includes looking after her mother and helping the children with their evening studies but also will provide savings on her limited and stretched income.
