Gary Hannam came into Kenya in 2007 with the sole purpose of offering a sustainable market to thousands of small holder farmers growing avocado while at the same time ensuring that the end consumer enjoyed the healthy extra virgin avocado oil. The company has been making oil from avocado fruits and has recently started a fresh avocado fruit export line. The company, with 68 employees, has steadily been growing over the years and is taking in more farmers. The company offers meals to its employees at the factory and offers its farmers advance payments before the season for them to take their children to school. The Fair-Trade certified company has put in place one of the biggest biogas digesters in East Africa, which uses the waste from the avocado oil processing from Companies like Olivado. The biogas is to be used to run huge power generators to power the factory (reduce power bills) and to run its modified trucks. The biogas byproduct is being packaged as fertilizer for distribution to its farmers.

Olivado needs this funding to support its growth. The company has been processing avocado into oil and has recently started a fresh avocado export line, complete with its own packhouse. This means that the company has to buy more fruit, recruit more farmers while at the same time ensuring that the farmers are paid on a timely manner upon fruit delivery.
