      El proyecto

Life for Boaz Onyango who lives in Kabonyo village in Kisumu county has been routine and boring. As a driver, he is mostly on the roads leaving behind his wife to run a shop and look after their three school going children.

Kisumu County is one of the counties with highest poverty levels, populous and whose residents’ activities continue to accelerate deforestation and exacerbate effects of climate change.

Living from hand to mouth, the family struggles to purchase kerosene daily for lighting needs. With just USD 120, and a deposit of USD 15, Boaz will acquire an Msolar6 Lighting system that comes with 3 bulbs,5.5W panel and a radio. He can pay this loan within 10 months saving about USD 5 from kerosene cost.

His wife will be able to open shop after dusk to rack in late customers and the entire home will enjoy adequate light for studies and other tasks. The radio shall kill all the sickening silence after dusk with favourite music and endless entertainment in this festive season.

There is no better Xmas gift for Boaz and his family than abundant and clean light.

      Impacto

BnF focuses on sustainable energy projects in rural Kenya, offering households a 12-month payment plan to purchase a solar home system. The system enables clients to generate sufficient energy to power many basic necessities such as lights, radios, televisions, and other essential appliances. Solar home systems reduce reliance on polluting and health-threatening fuels such as kerosene, firewood, and coal for families' lighting and cooking needs.

Electricity opens new economic opportunities for families, enabling household incomes to grow progressively. It provides access to information and entertainment, allowing the children to spend time studying in the evenings and empowering women to engage more in household and local-level decision-making. It stands to reason that entire rural communities' livelihoods benefit from access to clean energy as their productivity, efficiency, and health prospers.
