      Le projet

Bernard Ojala, resident of Kodedema Village is a good example. With a young family of five, Bernard personifies hard work, determination and hope for a brighter future. He juggles small scale farming with supplying home-made snacks to retail shops.

He has used kerosene for many years and his current social status demands that he switches to cleaner, abundant, cost saving solar lighting systems. This translates to his wife having enough light for her business after dusk, her children enjoying educational programmes and the entire family reclining for recreation from TV in the night.

In the market, a solar home lighting system that comprises 24-inch flat screen, radio,4 bulbs, 55 watts solar panel, 15AH battery and a torch is affordable.

This shall free the family from weekly kerosene cost of USD 8. The wife’s business shall attract more later comer clients who shall also be treated to national news from the radio.

      Impact

BnF focuses on sustainable energy projects in rural Kenya, offering households a 12-month payment plan to purchase a solar home system. The system enables clients to generate sufficient energy to power many basic necessities such as lights, radios, televisions, and other essential appliances. Solar home systems reduce reliance on polluting and health-threatening fuels such as kerosene, firewood, and coal for families' lighting and cooking needs.

Electricity opens new economic opportunities for families, enabling household incomes to grow progressively. It provides access to information and entertainment, allowing the children to spend time studying in the evenings and empowering women to engage more in household and local-level decision-making. It stands to reason that entire rural communities' livelihoods benefit from access to clean energy as their productivity, efficiency, and health prospers.
