The project
The deeper parts of rural Busia remain underdeveloped with high levels of poverty. Energy poverty is highest and Syprose’s home is usually dark as soon as the sun sets.
With a young family, she works hard selling groceries and tending family farm to compliment her husband’s income from casual labor. From meagre family income, Syprose has managed to construct a semi – permanent house as shown in the photo. She can no longer rely on kerosene and solar lantern for lighting. Kerosene costs are not only high but children are affected by resulting emissions.
The family is ready to install home lighting system comprising 4 bulbs, 55Watts Solar Panel,9Ah battery, a radio, torch, TV and phone charger going at USD 776. With this, the family will save USD 20 per month and add to family income of USD 30 to make monthly instalments for 20 months.
Syprose is not just buying this system for her family, it is for her immediate neighbors too who shall come to watch news and charge their phones. The children will enjoy more clean light for studies and her home chores will be easier with adequate lighting.
This is the dawn of a new era in the family, Solar transforms lives in earnest.

Impact
BnF focuses on sustainable energy projects in rural Kenya, offering households a 12-month payment plan to purchase a solar home system. The system enables clients to generate sufficient energy to power many basic necessities such as lights, radios, televisions, and other essential appliances. Solar home systems reduce reliance on polluting and health-threatening fuels such as kerosene, firewood, and coal for families' lighting and cooking needs.
Electricity opens new economic opportunities for families, enabling household incomes to grow progressively. It provides access to information and entertainment, allowing the children to spend time studying in the evenings and empowering women to engage more in household and local-level decision-making. It stands to reason that entire rural communities' livelihoods benefit from access to clean energy as their productivity, efficiency, and health prospers.
