SPBD Tonga 23

Nafe creates opportunities for herself and for the women around her. On her farm in Tonga, she grows crops, builds her home, and works every day to expand her business. A group loan from SPBD Tonga gave her the financial means to turn those plans into reality.

The project

In a small shed next to her house, Nafe processes kava into kava powder, while growing vanilla, taro, cassava, papaya, and kava root on her land. For a long time, she lacked access to financing to grow her business further. Thanks to a group loan from SPBD Tonga, she was able to purchase additional land, expand her vanilla production, and export to New Zealand for the first time. With the additional income, she completed her family home.

But she is not stopping there. Nafe wants to further expand her kava production and create jobs for other women in her community. For her, growth also means creating opportunities for others.

The principle behind SPBD Tonga’s group loans is simple: each woman borrows in her own name, while the group guarantees each other’s loans. For many women in Tonga, a traditional bank loan is not an option because they lack collateral. Through group loans, SPBD Tonga gives them access to financing and the opportunity to invest in their business and future.

With your investment, women in Tonga gain access to a loan that allows them to invest in their businesses and create opportunities for others.
