SPBD Tonga 24
SPBD Tonga provides access to finance across the island nation. Through group lending, women gain economic opportunities. Their communities benefit as well: Nafe was able to grow her business and aims to create jobs for others.

The project
SPBD Tonga provides women in Tonga with access to finance through group loans, enabling them to invest in their businesses and future. In Tonga, a traditional bank loan is not an option for many women, as they lack collateral and often live on remote islands without banks. Through group lending, SPBD offers a solution: each woman borrows in her own name, while the group jointly guarantees the loan.
Thanks to this approach, Nafe was able to expand her activities. She grows vanilla, taro, cassava, papaya, and kava root on her land. For a long time, she lacked the financing needed to invest in her business. A group loan from SPBD Tonga allowed her to purchase additional land, expand her vanilla production, and export her spices to New Zealand.
For Nafe, the loan meant not only business growth, but also the opportunity to help others. She aims to further expand her kava production and create jobs for women in her community.
Your investment contributes to equal opportunities in Tonga and enables women to start and grow their own businesses. In doing so, not only the female entrepreneur benefits, but also her wider community.

Impact
Tonga's female entrepreneurs often struggle to access financing, business support, and opportunities for growth. SPBD Tonga directly addresses these challenges by providing microloans exclusively to women, enabling them to start and expand their businesses.
Since its founding, SPBD Tonga has disbursed thousands of loans, totaling millions in funding for female-led enterprises. Women meet weekly to make repayments, receive business training, and build their savings—helping them achieve long-term financial stability.
