The project

In Malaysia, baker Atiqah is ready to make sweet treats with care. Together with four permanent employees and several part-time staff, she bakes cookies and other delicacies at her bakery.

When Atiqah took over from her mother in 2020, she saw many opportunities to grow the business further. With a clear ambition to expand the bakery, she turned to Funding Societies for financial support.

With a loan from Funding Societies, which she could apply for easily online, Atiqah invested in new ovens, ingredients, and packaging materials. As a result, she can produce more throughout the year and further expand her product range.

Funding Societies plays an important role in making financial services more accessible to small and medium-sized enterprises in Southeast Asia. This project focuses on entrepreneurs in Malaysia, but Funding Societies is also active in Indonesia, Vietnam, Thailand, and Singapore.

With your investment, entrepreneurs in Malaysia get the opportunity to grow their businesses and improve their quality of life.

SMEs comprise about 60% of Southeast Asia's GDP and provide most jobs, but they face a $320B financing gap. Funding Societies has stepped in to bridge this gap, financing over €815 million through more than 3 million business loans in the last five years. Their focus lies in short-term credit, typically under 12 months, tailored to meet the needs of SMEs.

The impact of their loans is significant. About 76% of SMEs use their loans for working capital. Many acknowledge that this financing was essential to keep their businesses open and maintain their workforce. Furthermore, Funding Societies fosters women's economic empowerment by supporting female entrepreneurs, who comprise 24% of their borrowers.

Investing in Funding Societies on Lendahand promotes financial inclusion and social mobility in Southeast Asia. With Funding Societies, you can contribute to regional development and make a real difference in people's lives.
