The project

Access to financing is limited in Nicaragua, especially for low-income small business owners and farmers. Only a small share of the population can borrow from formal financial institutions or has access to a savings account. MiCrédito focuses on groups with limited access to capital: women entrepreneurs, small-scale farmers, and self-employed people in rural areas.

Yasaira Rosales has been selling fruit in her village for years. She remembers how she started with just a small fruit basket, without enough capital to offer a wide variety of fruit. She reinvested her daily earnings, but her first stall was poorly built, unstable, and therefore unsafe.

With a loan from MiCrédito, Yasaira can completely rebuild her fruit stall. A sturdy structure with a corrugated metal roof replaces the old, unsafe setup. She is also expanding her product range to include watermelon, dragon fruit, avocados, melons, bananas, and squash.

Yasaira is proud that she can now support her son in his culinary training. This inspired her to start selling meals alongside fruit. Her son prepares traditional Nicaraguan dishes such as tamuga, a specialty from Masatepe, as well as soups and other meals, which Yasaira then offers to her customers.

Thanks to this accessible financing, Yasaira is improving not only her own life but also that of her family. Her children are receiving a good education, and her business continues to grow. In this way, MiCrédito contributes to greater stability for vulnerable families across Nicaragua.
