Flow 4

In remote Rwandan villages, getting to a bank can take hours. Mobile money agents are the only financial infrastructure available locally. Flow provides short-term loans so agents always have enough digital balance for people to deposit or withdraw funds. Your investment strengthens financial access where it is needed most.

The project

In Rwanda, most daily financial transactions take place on mobile phones. In villages without a bank, mobile money agents form the local financial infrastructure. Many agents operate a small shop or market stall alongside this service and earn a fixed commission per transaction. The more transactions they can process, the more they earn. To assist customers instantly with deposits and withdrawals, they need a constant supply of digital working capital, which is often unavailable.

Flow strengthens this financial infrastructure by providing fast, flexible, short-term loans via mobile phone. Loan applications are submitted digitally and processed immediately. As a result, mobile money agents always have the digital balance needed to serve their customers. This keeps trade, payments, and everyday transactions moving in areas where no bank is present.

Many mobile money agents are often women or young entrepreneurs earning a low income. A large share of Flow’s customers live on less than $50 per month. With sufficient digital working capital, they can process more transactions, increasing their income and strengthening the financial resilience of the communities they serve.

By investing in Flow, you strengthen a financial system that is already part of everyday life in Rwanda. You provide entrepreneurs with the liquidity they need to handle more transactions, grow their income, and keep financial services accessible in the most vulnerable regions.

Lives improved

Small kiosk owners and mobile money agents are essential to daily life in both Rwanda and Uganda. They distribute goods and services such as food, household items, farming supplies, and mobile money—especially in rural areas where formal banks are often out of reach. These entrepreneurs are often the first and only point of access to the formal economy, yet many are overlooked by traditional lenders and operate with very limited income.

Flow gives them access to short-term, digital loans tailored to their needs. With this financing, they can keep their businesses running, improve their income, and become more resilient in the face of financial challenges. Flow focuses especially on women, young people, and first-time borrowers—supporting greater economic inclusion and stability where it’s needed most.

  • 98% of customers report earning more since receiving Flow financing
  • 97% feel more financially secure and better able to manage unexpected expenses
  • 42% of female entrepreneurs report greater recognition and influence in their communities
