Flow 5
Mobile money agents in Rwanda support people by depositing and withdrawing money via mobile phones. But what about their own access to finance? Flow provides these entrepreneurs with short-term loans, ensuring they have sufficient balance to carry out transactions. Your investment sets money in motion in rural Rwanda.

The project
In Rwanda, small mobile money agents are indispensable. They give people access to financial services such as sending or receiving money. A mobile money agent often runs a small shop or kiosk and functions as a kind of mini-bank. Customers use SMS or an app to send money to their wallet, a digital purse on their phone. At the agent, they can exchange this digital money for cash or deposit cash into their wallet. In this way, mobile money agents make it possible to save, pay bills, or send money to family, even in villages without a nearby bank.
At the same time, agents themselves often struggle to access sufficient working capital. When their mobile money balance runs out, they can no longer process transactions and have to turn customers away. This results in lost income and limits access to financial services in their communities.
Through Flow, these entrepreneurs can easily apply for short-term loans via their mobile phones, tailored to their income patterns. This ensures they always have enough working capital to keep transactions running. Many of Flow’s clients are women, young people, or first-time borrowers. With Flow’s financing, they keep financial services accessible for people in rural Rwanda.

Impact
Small kiosk owners and mobile money agents are essential to daily life in both Rwanda and Uganda. They distribute goods and services such as food, household items, farming supplies, and mobile money—especially in rural areas where formal banks are often out of reach. These entrepreneurs are often the first and only point of access to the formal economy, yet many are overlooked by traditional lenders and operate with very limited income.
Flow gives them access to short-term, digital loans tailored to their needs. With this financing, they can keep their businesses running, improve their income, and become more resilient in the face of financial challenges. Flow focuses especially on women, young people, and first-time borrowers—supporting greater economic inclusion and stability where it’s needed most.
