SPBD Tonga 19
On International Women’s Day, we celebrate female entrepreneurs around the world. SPBD Tonga is dedicated to supporting women entrepreneurs in Tonga: 99% of their clients are women. With your investment, you contribute to the financial independence of women for whom access to financing is not always a given.

The project
Many women in Tonga work in traditional crafts, such as Llima. On the island of Tonga, she weaves beautiful traditional mats in a small workshop. Women’s income in Tonga often lags behind. On average, women earn about 47% of what men earn.
SPBD Tonga helps close this gap by offering group loans to women entrepreneurs. Within such a group, the women guarantee each other’s loans.
Llima received a loan from SPBD Tonga. She learned weaving from her mother and handcrafts mats from pandanus leaves. With her loan, she was able to purchase more materials and increase her sales. Her products are now also reaching Tongans living abroad.
In addition to financing, SPBD provides training in entrepreneurship and financial management. This strengthens not only these women’s businesses, but also their confidence and economic independence.
With your investment, women like Llima gain access to financing to grow their businesses. Will you celebrate International Women’s Day by investing in SPBD Tonga?
