Santa Isabel 14

“I’m a leader with Impulsa,” reads Nathalie’s purple T-shirt. It suits her. From her parents’ home, she built her own business and now leads a women’s group at Santa Isabel. With a microloan from Santa Isabel, she started her business and began earning her own income.

The project

During a visit to Peru in December 2025, Lendahand spoke with Nathalie, one of the entrepreneurs who borrows through Santa Isabel. She lives in Piura, in the north of the country, and leads a women’s group within the Impulsa Mujer program, which supports women entrepreneurs with financing and guidance.

From her parents’ home, Nathalie sells small products such as toys and earns her own income. Like the other women in her group, she receives a microloan from Santa Isabel.

Santa Isabel primarily provides group loans to women entrepreneurs. Each woman receives an individual loan, but they jointly guarantee each other’s repayments and meet regularly to repay and share experiences. This approach combines access to financing with mutual support and knowledge sharing.

For Nathalie, the loan means she can continue running her business. As a group leader, she motivates other women to actively participate in the meetings, which take place at her parents’ home. In this way, not only her own business grows, but the group as a whole as well.

Will you invest in financial inclusion and greater equal opportunities for women in Peru?

As a non-profit cooperative, Santa Isabel focuses on financial inclusion in communities with limited access to traditional banking services. In addition to loans, entrepreneurs receive financial education and guidance in money management, helping them grow their businesses in a sustainable way.

With 34 branches in often remote regions, Santa Isabel reaches entrepreneurs who would otherwise have no access to external financing. This is especially important for women, who often lack the financial resources to expand their businesses. With a loan, they can purchase additional inventory and invest in better equipment, increasing their income opportunities.

Beyond financing, Santa Isabel provides practical support. Members can participate in savings programs and group insurance plans, giving them greater financial security. By combining access to credit with long-term financial resilience, Santa Isabel empowers entrepreneurs not just in the short term, but also in building a more stable future.
