Flow 7

Mobile money agents play an important role in Rwanda's local economy. They help people pay, save, and receive money, especially in areas without banks. Yet they often lack the working capital to serve every customer. Flow provides fast, flexible financing to support them.

The project

Many people in Rwanda manage their daily finances via mobile phones, making mobile money agents essential, particularly in villages and neighborhoods without banks. These agents often run a small shop or market stall and offer digital payments as an additional service. To serve their customers effectively, they need digital working capital, which is frequently in short supply.

Flow promotes financial inclusion by offering fast, flexible loans via mobile phone. Entrepreneurs can easily apply online, and Flow processes applications quickly thanks to a model that combines digital technology with local support on the ground. This financing ensures agents always have access to the working capital needed to serve their customers, making financial services available even in areas without banks.

Many of these mobile money agents are women, young entrepreneurs, or first-time borrowers with limited income. A large share of Flow's customers earn less than $50 per month. With over 920,000 loans disbursed across Rwanda and Uganda to date, Flow has already shown how this approach strengthens small businesses and increases financial resilience. In Rwanda, Flow gives these entrepreneurs the resources to expand their activities and become financially stronger.

Will you give these entrepreneurs the chance to increase their income and make financial services accessible in their communities?

Small kiosk owners and mobile money agents are essential to daily life in both Rwanda and Uganda. They distribute goods and services such as food, household items, farming supplies, and mobile money—especially in rural areas where formal banks are often out of reach. These entrepreneurs are often the first and only point of access to the formal economy, yet many are overlooked by traditional lenders and operate with very limited income.

Flow gives them access to short-term, digital loans tailored to their needs. With this financing, they can keep their businesses running, improve their income, and become more resilient in the face of financial challenges. Flow focuses especially on women, young people, and first-time borrowers—supporting greater economic inclusion and stability where it’s needed most.

  • 98% of customers report earning more since receiving Flow financing
  • 97% feel more financially secure and better able to manage unexpected expenses
  • 42% of female entrepreneurs report greater recognition and influence in their communities
