Flow 8

Mobile money agents are essential in Uganda's local economy. They help people to pay, save, and receive money, often in neighborhoods without a bank. Yet many lack access to working capital themselves. Flow offers accessible loans via mobile phone.

The project

Millions of people in Uganda manage their daily finances via mobile phone. In neighborhoods and villages without banks, mobile money agents are therefore indispensable. Many of them run a small shop, market stall, or salon and offer mobile transactions as an additional service, supporting customers with digital payments and cash from their kiosk.

To do this work well, these agents need float: digital working capital that allows them to carry out transactions. Without enough float, they cannot serve their customers and miss out on income. Access to this working capital is often the biggest challenge these entrepreneurs face.

Flow offers short, digital loans tailored to the work of these entrepreneurs. Applications run via mobile phone, and Flow processes them quickly thanks to a model that combines digital technology with local support on the ground. This flexible financing gives agents constant access to the working capital they need to serve customers with withdrawals, payments, and digital savings, making financial services available in places without a bank.

Uganda represents around 80 percent of Flow's activities, and many of its customers are women, young people, or first-time borrowers with limited income. Flow has disbursed over 920,000 loans to date, making a real difference by strengthening small businesses, increasing financial resilience, and promoting financial inclusion in underserved areas of Uganda.

Your investment gives women, young people, and starting entrepreneurs the chance to increase their income and strengthen their community.

Small kiosk owners and mobile money agents are essential to daily life in both Rwanda and Uganda. They distribute goods and services such as food, household items, farming supplies, and mobile money—especially in rural areas where formal banks are often out of reach. These entrepreneurs are often the first and only point of access to the formal economy, yet many are overlooked by traditional lenders and operate with very limited income.

Flow gives them access to short-term, digital loans tailored to their needs. With this financing, they can keep their businesses running, improve their income, and become more resilient in the face of financial challenges. Flow focuses especially on women, young people, and first-time borrowers—supporting greater economic inclusion and stability where it’s needed most.

  • 98% of customers report earning more since receiving Flow financing
  • 97% feel more financially secure and better able to manage unexpected expenses
  • 42% of female entrepreneurs report greater recognition and influence in their communities
