For more than thirty years, Eulalia, better known as Lala, has run her small grocery store in Oaxaca, Mexico. Thanks to a group loan from Sofipa, she expanded her product range and increased her income. This allows her to better support her family financially and invest in her children’s education.

The project
Lala has owned her small grocery store in central Oaxaca, Mexico, for more than thirty years. The shop is a trusted place for local residents and an important source of income for her family.
Thanks to a group loan from Sofipa, Lala was able to expand her product range. By offering more products, she attracted new customers and increased her sales. With the additional income, she can better support her family financially and invest in her children’s education.
In southern Mexico, access to financing is not easy for many women. Sofipa makes financing accessible through group loans: women form a group, guarantee each other’s loans and receive guidance from a coordinator. During the weekly meetings, they strengthen their financial resilience and work together on their businesses.
With your investment, more women like Lala can expand their businesses, increase their income and invest in areas such as education.

Impact
Financing is critically needed in southeastern Mexico, where Sofipa operates. Historically, this region has faced the greatest challenges, with the state of Oaxaca showing alarming poverty rates. This is the result of deficiencies in education, infrastructure, and basic services, which have hindered development. The situation for women in this area is even more difficult, further widening the gap. A loan empowers women, creating equal opportunities and making them stronger.
