The project

Agriculture is essential to Kyrgyzstan: it contributes 12% to the country’s GDP and provides employment for around 25% of the working population. The country offers ideal conditions for organic farming and livestock farming.

Mayramkul and her family have been active in agriculture and livestock farming for many years. They grow raspberries and raise horses. In the photo, you can see her husband picking raspberries. Together, they ensure that the farm runs smoothly and that their business continues to grow.

With a loan from OXUS Kyrgyzstan, a microfinance institution focused on rural entrepreneurs with limited access to traditional banks, the family purchased additional horses. This allowed them to increase their production capacity and generate more income.

Thanks in part to your investment, 200 entrepreneurs in Kyrgyzstan will get the opportunity to access financing.

Oxus KG is a microfinance institution in Kyrgyzstan, serving a total of more than 11,000 households across five regions. With a strong presence in rural and semi-urban communities — especially in rural areas — the institution reaches clients who often have limited access to traditional banking services. Around two-thirds of clients are based in rural areas and more than half are women.

Through loans for agriculture, small businesses, education, livelihood improvements, and home renovation, Oxus KGS helps families and entrepreneurs strengthen their income and living conditions. Agriculture-related lending represents about one-quarter of the portfolio, while green loans already account for 15.9%, including financing for sustainable housing materials and electric or hybrid vehicles.

The institution also supports women borrowers through financial and digital literacy training, including women with disabilities, reinforcing its role in creating economic opportunities in underserved communities.
