The project

Mayramkul and her husband are working together with their family to build a future in rural Kyrgyzstan, where agriculture and livestock farming have been the main source of income for generations. They grow raspberries and raise horses and other animals.

In the summer, the family moves a large portion of their livestock to the high-altitude pastures, known as the jailoo. There, the animals graze according to a traditional method of livestock farming that is still common in Kyrgyzstan.

The business is a true family enterprise: Mayramkul, her husband, and the other family members each have their own responsibilities and work together to ensure the farm continues to operate and grow. With a loan from OXUS Kyrgyzstan, the family purchased additional horses.

Oxus KG is a microfinance institution in Kyrgyzstan, serving a total of more than 11,000 households across five regions. With a strong presence in rural and semi-urban communities — especially in rural areas — the institution reaches clients who often have limited access to traditional banking services. Around two-thirds of clients are based in rural areas and more than half are women.

Through loans for agriculture, small businesses, education, livelihood improvements, and home renovation, Oxus KGS helps families and entrepreneurs strengthen their income and living conditions. Agriculture-related lending represents about one-quarter of the portfolio, while green loans already account for 15.9%, including financing for sustainable housing materials and electric or hybrid vehicles.

The institution also supports women borrowers through financial and digital literacy training, including women with disabilities, reinforcing its role in creating economic opportunities in underserved communities.
