The project

Research firm 60 Decibels ranks Flow #1 among 53 lenders in East Africa for providing access to credit to first-time borrowers. But what does this mean in practice?

Flow helps expand access to financing by providing digital loans to mobile money agents and small kiosk owners.

Mobile money agents play an important role in the economies of many African countries. Every day, they help millions of people send, receive and withdraw money. At the same time, they often have limited access to working capital.

Nearly 95% of Flow’s customers had never had access to this type of working capital before, not through a bank, a microfinance institution (MFI), or another lender. By providing access to financing, Flow enables customers to increase their income and improve their standard of living. This has a particularly positive impact on female borrowers.

Flow reaches entrepreneurs who previously had no access to financing. By investing, are you contribute to a more inclusive financial system in Rwanda?

Small kiosk owners and mobile money agents are essential to daily life in both Rwanda and Uganda. They distribute goods and services such as food, household items, farming supplies, and mobile money—especially in rural areas where formal banks are often out of reach. These entrepreneurs are often the first and only point of access to the formal economy, yet many are overlooked by traditional lenders and operate with very limited income.

Flow gives them access to short-term, digital loans tailored to their needs. With this financing, they can keep their businesses running, improve their income, and become more resilient in the face of financial challenges. Flow focuses especially on women, young people, and first-time borrowers—supporting greater economic inclusion and stability where it’s needed most.

  • 98% of customers report earning more since receiving Flow financing
  • 97% feel more financially secure and better able to manage unexpected expenses
  • 42% of female entrepreneurs report greater recognition and influence in their communities
