The project

Digna started her business with a small production of botanas, Mexican fried snacks. With her first loan from Sofipa, she bought ingredients such as pasta and oil. With a subsequent loan, she invested in a potato-cutting machine, which significantly increased her production. Digna has since grown into a wholesaler and supplies her chips to a growing customer base.

With your investment, you contribute to financing women entrepreneurs in Oaxaca, Mexico, who want to develop their businesses further. Sofipa provides group loans with a term of 16 weeks. The women guarantee each other’s loans and build a credit history in the process.

People with low incomes in Oaxaca have limited access to financial services. For women entrepreneurs, a loan can help them invest in, for example, inventory or equipment and grow their businesses.

Sofipa was founded in 2004 and has since helped thousands of women expand their businesses. With your investment, you contribute to financing women entrepreneurs like Digna.

Financing is critically needed in southeastern Mexico, where Sofipa operates. Historically, this region has faced the greatest challenges, with the state of Oaxaca showing alarming poverty rates. This is the result of deficiencies in education, infrastructure, and basic services, which have hindered development. The situation for women in this area is even more difficult, further widening the gap. A loan empowers women, creating equal opportunities and making them stronger.
