SOFIPA 29

Rosalía has been running her own small business for years, but without financing, her income cannot grow any further. Together with eight enterprising women from her neighbourhood, she founded the credit group 'Guiechachi'. With Sofipa's support, this group gains access to financing that allows them to grow their businesses.

The project

Rosalía has been an entrepreneur for years, but a traditional bank is not an option for her. The amount she needs is too small, and without collateral or a credit history, it is difficult for her to get a loan. Yet that one investment is exactly what makes the difference between getting by and getting ahead.

Through a group loan from Sofipa, Rosalía gets that chance. But you don't arrange a loan like that on your own. Rosalía looked for women in her neighbourhood in the same situation and found eight. Together, they founded a new credit group: 'Guiechachi', named after the flowers that characterise the traditional decorations of the region.

Every four months, Rosalía receives an amount that fits her personal situation, which she invests in her business. For the group loan, the women do not need collateral: they guarantee each other's loans, which creates strong social involvement. Every week, the women meet and, guided by a Sofipa-coördinator, repay part of their credit. With every cycle, the women also build up a credit history that can later set them on the path to a formal bank loan.

For Rosalía, the loan means more than money alone: she can finally invest in her business, grow her income, and strengthen her position in her family and community.

With your investment, entrepreneurs like Rosalía gain access to financing that allows them to grow their businesses and work towards a better future for their families and communities.

Financing is critically needed in southeastern Mexico, where Sofipa operates. Historically, this region has faced the greatest challenges, with the state of Oaxaca showing alarming poverty rates. This is the result of deficiencies in education, infrastructure, and basic services, which have hindered development. The situation for women in this area is even more difficult, further widening the gap. A loan empowers women, creating equal opportunities and making them stronger.

  • Percentage of female borrowers: 92.9%
  • 67% of borrowers report an improved quality of life. Source: Survey conducted by 60dB.
  • Average loan amount: €510
