Bayan poses in her colorful fabric store at a covered market in Ulaanbaatar. Thanks to financing from GSB Capital, she was able to invest in her business quickly and flexibly. As her business grew, she created jobs for people in her neighborhood.

The project
For many entrepreneurs in Mongolia, access to finance is difficult. Outside the capital, formal financial services are limited, and many small businesses lack collateral or a credit history. As a result, growth remains a challenge for many entrepreneurs, especially for those who are also caring for their families while building a business.
In Mongolia, entrepreneurs finance their businesses with support from GSB. Bayan’s fabric shop is a good example. In her shop, located in a busy indoor market in Ulaanbaatar, she sells brightly colored sheets, towels, and mattresses. Bayan makes sure everything runs smoothly: she manages the shop, maintains contact with suppliers, and oversees the day-to-day operations.
GSB Capital provides these entrepreneurs with growth financing. The institution offers loans to small businesses, including in regions where financial services are scarcely available. This gives entrepreneurs like Bayan access to the capital they need to further expand their businesses.
Thanks to the loan from GSB, her fabric shop grew from one to four branches, and she opened her own warehouse. This creates new jobs for people in her neighborhood and gives Bayan a higher and more stable income.
In this way, Bayan is building a better future for herself and her family, while also offering others the opportunity to work. Invest in entrepreneurs like Bayan and help make it possible for her growth to create new opportunities in the community.

Impact
In Mongolia, small and medium-sized enterprises face significant challenges due to stringent banking requirements and a need for more government support. This makes it difficult for entrepreneurs to grow and create jobs. At the same time, the country struggles with severe air pollution, particularly in Ulaanbaatar, where over 200,000 households burn coal to heat their homes. According to a 2019 study by the Asian Development Bank, approximately 80% of the air pollution in the capital is due to this practice.
GSB Capital addresses these issues holistically. On one hand, it offers fast business loans to underserved SME entrepreneurs, enabling them to grow and contribute to the local economy. On the other hand, GSB Capital invests in a green loan program that promotes environmentally friendly heating alternatives, reducing reliance on coal and improving air quality. These initiatives not only foster economic growth but also make a significant contribution to a cleaner environment.
- 35% of GSB loans support female entrepreneurs, helping them grow their businesses and create jobs
